If you are having page counting or other attribute detection issues when using a printer with PaperCut, please see the article. Also see: PaperCut also supports most wide-format printers and plotters. The printing costs for plotters can be defined using page area based charging. This KB article covers any known issues with popular models/makes/drivers. If you’re after information about and device compatibility, please see.
Brother Brother printers supporting PCL and PostScript are supported. Some models using proprietary drivers (e.g.
XL2HB) currently only are supported to a limited extent (e.g. Due to a non-standard driver output our page counting ability on certain low end Brother devices is impacted. This includes the HL-5470, HL-5450 and HL-2250.
Note May 2013: Fixed a problem in page level color detection for Brother PostScript printers. Note May 2012: Added paper size detection for Brother MFC-6490CW. Note March 2012: Added page count support for Brother QL-580N. Note July 2011: Added page count support for MFC-J6710. Note December 2009: The Mac driver for the MFC-8500 uses a proprietary and undocumented printer language and is currently not supported. There has been 1 request for adding support for this printer. Note August 2009: The Mac driver for the HL-5250DN labelled “CUPS Printer Driver” on the Brother website (a PCL5 driver) has issues with copy count detection.
An alternative is to use the driver option labelled “BR-Script Driver” (a PostScript driver) instead. We currently have 1 request for improving the copy count detection on the HL-5250DN using the PCL5 driver on Mac. Note March 2009: There have been some reports of n-up (2 pages per 1 sheet) printing not being detected on the Brother HL-7050. The solution is to change. Note Feb 2009: For color detection support on the Brother HL-2700CN series either use the PostScript driver or upgrade to version 9.2 for support with the PCL6 driver Note June 2011: Recommend that watermarking not be used for the XL2HB driver which is close to PCL6 but not close enough for watermark insertion.
Canon Canon laser printers and copiers work with PaperCut. The majority of Canon BubbleJet printers are compatible. Canon UFR is an undocumented proprietary language and driver updates have been known to cause issues, however regular PaperCut updates (see below) offer continued support. Note May 2017: LBP842C driver: Fixed an iOS printing issue that caused an incorrect page count.
Note May 2013: Fixed page counting of N-up documents for Canon LBP 6710i on Mac. Note Mar 2013: Added page size detection for Canon CAPT printers. Note Oct 2012: Fixed page size and duplex detection for Canon LIPS printers. Note Sep 2012: Fixed grayscale filter for Canon iR-ADV C5045/5051 PS3. Note Sep 2012: Added SNMP Hardware count support for Canon and NRG. Note Aug 2012: Improved page analysis for Canon UFR-II and PCL5.
How cook crack cocaine. Note Apr 2012: Improved grayscale and duplex detection for Canon LBP 8632 and other UFR-II printers on Mac. Note Mar 2012: Fixed page counting problems seen on Canon iPF 5100 for page sizes larger than 17 inches. Note: The Convert to Grayscale filter is currently not supported for Canon GDI based printers. The Convert to Duplex filter is not supported for some Canon GDI based printers the Mac Operating System as these drivers don’t use standard CUPS backends. Note: Many Canon GDI based printers may have issues on the Mac Operating System. Many of these drivers don’t use standard CUPS backends and hence PaperCut can have difficulty interfacing with these devices.
Many of these drivers are also host only and can’t support Mac OSX server shared queues. To support these devices PaperCut must work around the device limitations use techniques as outlined. Note Oct 2011: As was reported for Feb 2009, the Canon IPF 600 series (605, 655) also does not support color detection currently.
